Help the Church respond to Hurricane Helene

Catholic Extension Society provides aid to faith communities devastated by latest natural disasters

Thousands of people have lost access to food, water, power, and hope since hurricanes struck the Southeastern United States.

It will take years to rebuild all that was destroyed in towns that were already struggling, such as Hampton, Tennessee, pictured below.

Families who have lost everything are turning to local Catholic churches for help. In Erwin, Tennessee, Father Tom Charters, pictured below, has been ministering to all the needs of his parishioners and the community at large since the start of heavy flooding resulting from Hurricane Helene’s impact.

Father Charter’s parish has become a gathering point for people, Catholic and non-Catholic, seeking spiritual comfort, shelter, and aid. Thanks to the generosity of our donors thus far, St. Michael the Archangel Church has been able to provide support to hundreds of families affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

Father Charters is extremely thankful to everyone who donated to us to help his community. Parishioners continue to rally together at their Catholic church, mobilizing to distribute food and additional supplies to their brothers and sisters most in need.

Sadly, this disaster is far from over. Last week, Bishop Mark Beckman of the Diocese of Knoxville met with families whose loved ones were killed or are still missing.

The Church will continue to embrace those who have lost so much in the wake of disaster. And we will work in solidarity with faith leaders across the country who are organizing ongoing aid.

Your kindness during this challenging time has been a beacon of hope, and we are deeply grateful for the support you’ve shown. Please answer the prayers of those whose lives have been shattered by Hurricanes Helene by donating today.
