A soccer tournament and leadership development opportunity for Latino young adults.

Catholic Extension Society and the Southeast Pastoral Institute (SEPI) have partnered to offer this unique event that will captivate young adults from Extension Dioceses, who will learn more deeply about their faith and leadership while also competing in a soccer tournament. This effort will provide space to gather with other like-minded young leaders to learn, sharpen their leadership & team building skills, and compete for a soccer cup.

The Copa Católica Championship will take place November 10-12, 2023, as part of SEPI’s Young Adult Ministry Regional Conference in Birmingham, AL.

The Copa Católica ministry and soccer tournament will take place within the Young Adult Southeast Regional Conference led by the Southeast Pastoral Institute (SEPI) in Birmingham, AL. The conference will feature leadership workshops for young men and women, with the Copa Católica tournament final rounds on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday’s closing events will include tournament championship and award presentations.

Teams (men’s and women’s) from Southeast Extension Dioceses will participate in the tournament. Each participating team will receive a Copa Católica Starter’s Kit, including sports and leadership ministry materials.

Eight final teams will travel to Birmingham, AL, to represent their diocese at the Copa Católica main event. Each of these teams will receive:

  • Conference registration stipend for team members
  • Participation in leadership workshops led by SEPI
  • Travel and lodging stipend for the team
  • Copa Católica tournament t-shirts for teams who make the final match.
    *Any additional expenses will be the responsibility of each team

The winning teams (one men’s and one women’s) will take home the Copa Católica and a $1,000 stipend for their ministry provided by Catholic Extension Society.
